In 2000, José Maria da Fonseca (Azeitão) made a partnership with a Douro’s important name (Cristiano van Zeller), from which the “Domini” and “Domini Plus” wines were born. Five years later the partnership ended. But 2005 was also the year that the Azeitão’s based company, acquired Quinta do Mós (Douro Superior) – totaling 15 vineyard hectares. Nowadays Domingos Soares Franco is the person who fully takes the wine’s oenological responsibility.
The wines I’m about to describe are the most recent releases, dating back to the 2011 harvest and where the varieties Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Touriga shine.
The first wine, somewhat simpler and also the most affordable, is the Domini. With simplified qualities and, revealing to be a polite wine given its presentation. Low complexity, very focused on fruit and with no deviations from the region’s profile.
The top-end, “Domini Plus”, follows the “Super Premium” range’s footsteps, mainly in the outstanding fruit quality which is coupled with a personal vision and complexity of the regions they come from. The quality sky-rockets in this wine. A wine with ripe, clean and plump fruits (mulberry, blueberry and raspberry), showing itself ready for drinking but at the same time reveals promising bottle longevity. Well integrated wood, balsamic touch, spices, captivating and cozy complexity, fresh and good intensity. Palate with presence of fruit, tasty, a pleasurable walk by, complex set with great harmony, spices, and cistus. A high quality wine.
