The Druid’s figure, associated to Celtic mythology, held the wisdom of words, writing and cure. A specialist in magic, sacrifice and augury practices. Based on a natural philosophy, seeking to find balance and linking the personal life to the spiritual source present in nature. Having as a basis that same respect and links to nature and land, forth comes the project of two oenologists – Nuno do Ó and João Corrêa.
They chose the Dão and the Encruzado variety with the objective of creating a top-end white, from a 40 years old vineyard – located 500 meters above sea level in Quinta da Turquide, close to Serra da Estrela. A minimalist project where productions are always very limited, such is the example of Druida red whose production was limited to 500 bottles.
The Druida Reserva 2012 white followed its natural course, was fermented with the sole use of indigenous yeasts and aged in French oak barrels for 9 months. Just like the variety, the wine has a strong, stubborn, shy character. And, by the way, sometimes assumes a polymorph’s facet just like the druid.
The Encruzado is a variety that needs times to settle and exhale all its grace. In the case of this wine that’s still growing, a little more patience is required. At the moment, the tasting it provides puts side to side a developing complexity sustained on a fine freshness dose.
The mineral austerity still masters the fruit. All wrapped by subtle wood in a stream’s freshness set with colorful borders – breaking the stone and washing the citrus fruit.
A tasting that teleport us to said place with Serra da Estrela as a background.
